Dust and mess during work in your home

Some of the work we carry out in your home will inevitably create dust and mess.

Building dust can cause respiratory problems, particularly for people with existing health conditions. We’ll take reasonable steps to minimise dust and mess and clean up after ourselves, although some dust may escape and you may occasionally need to hoover or mop an area after the work is complete.

What we'll do

We will:

  • Let you know in advance if we expect the work to create dust.
  • Take reasonable steps to minimise dust and mess.
  • Tidy up after ourselves, including hoovering where needed.

What we ask you to do

To help us manage dust safely, we ask you to:

  • Allow us to ventilate areas where work is taking place, where possible.
  • Keep away from the immediate work area while work is underway.
  • Be aware that, despite our best efforts, some dust may escape. You may occasionally need to hoover, mop hard floors or wipe down an area after the work is complete.

What types of work can create dust?

Dust can be created by a range of jobs we carry out in your home. The most common include:

  • Plastering.
  • Drilling.
  • Mixing postcrete (which will be done outside, although small amounts may occasionally blow inside).
  • Replacing ceilings.
  • Work in loft spaces, where dust can escape through the loft hatch.
  • Sweeping up after work has been carried out.
  • Cavity wall insulation.
  • Damp and mould cleaning, depending on the work involved.
