Frequently asked questions: communal energy
-
What is communal energy?
Energy (gas and/or electricity) supplied to the areas that we either light or heat outside of your front door is referred to as ‘communal energy’. For example, lighting the stairs to your flat, or powering a door entry system.
-
What is dispensation?
Curo is required to consult with customers when entering any long term agreement for services under Section 20 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985. A dispensation in this instance is special permission, from the courts, to proceed with choosing an energy supplier without the normal consultation.
-
What do I have to do now?
Nothing. We have now been granted dispensation to get you the best energy deal on a longer term arrangement.
-
Why would Curo not consult?
When accessing the best energy deals, suppliers are only able to lock in the best available unit costs for a very short time (one working day). This means it is not possible to consult with customers using the normal Section 20 process.
-
What if I don't agree with this charge?
Customers were able to write to the First Tier Tribunal as part of our application for dispensation. The tribunal took account of any comments received when making their decision.
-
What if I don't want to change my home supplier?
What if I don’t want to change my home supplier?
You don’t have to. The communal supply will not change any existing arrangements you already have with the gas and/or electricity supplies you have in place for your home. -
How can I trust you'll get the best deal?
We will work with a broker who will search the whole energy market, ensuring we can lock in the best deal on the market at that time. We will be able to share this information with you (against comparison sites) once the deal has been secured. We want the best deal for all of us going forward, for years to come.
-
Why aren't you doing this for the offices?
We are. We will be including all our offices and community centres.
