Bereavement
We understand that losing a loved one is very painful.
Making arrangements and letting all the different organisations know about the bereavement can be particularly difficult, and we are here to help.
If your relative lived in a Curo home, we'll work with you to ensure that ending the tenancy is dealt with sensitively.
Here you’ll find information about the process, but we know that things can sometimes feel overwhelming, so if you need any help, or have any questions please get in touch on 01225 366000 or email Tenancy.Management@curo-group.co.uk and we will support you.
If you need to end the tenancy
Giving notice
Please tell us about the death as soon as possible by contacting our Customer Contact Team.
Only an executor of a will can end the tenancy. If you are the executor we’ll ask you to download this leaflet and fill out the form on page 5. We can send you a paper copy if you would prefer – just let us know.
If you don’t have the necessary authority to end the tenancy, then please get in touch and we can explain what happens
We’ll need you to provide a copy of the death certificate.
Once we’ve received the form and the death certificate there will be a four-week notice period.
How is the rent paid during the notice period?
Any rent due to Curo should be paid from the Estate. Family, next of kin or friends are not liable to pay this. Please contact us if you are concerned about this.
What happens next?
- We’ll contact you to arrange to visit the property and let you know what needs to be done before you return the keys.
- We’ll contact to you to confirm what we agreed at the visit.
- We’ll also contact you to discuss the rent account and any outstanding balance.
More information about ending a tenancy, including details about clearing the property and how to return keys can be found on this leaflet.
Is someone else living in the home?
Please let us know if someone else is living in the home. We will let you know if we are able to let that person have a tenancy. This is called a succession of tenancy.
Informing others
When someone dies, there are various organisations that need to be informed, such as the local authority, banks and utility companies.
Tell Us Once is a service that lets you report a death to most government organisations at once.
