Energy performance assessments & certificates
Find out about your Curo energy performance assessment and the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) that it produces.
What's an energy performance assessment?
An energy performance assessment is a visual inspection of your home that helps us to assess the energy efficiency of the building. We’ll need to visit your home to carry out this assessment.
The assessment is used to produce an accurate Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) for your home. The EPC gives your home a rating from A (very efficient) to G (inefficient). It will also show how your home can be made more energy efficient and cheaper to run.
The information gathered at this assessment will help us to invest in the energy improvements needed to meet Government targets to improve energy efficiency by 2030.

How long will the energy performance assessment take?
The assessment should take around 30–60 minutes depending on the size of your home.
What are we looking at during the assessment?
When we visit your home, we'll look at:
- The size of the property: we'll create a floor plan and take measurements.
- Insulation
- Lighting
- Heating systems
- Ventilation
- Windows
- External doors
- Roof
What are you taking photos of?
We need photos of anything that generates hot water, heating or stops heat escaping – these are typically things like your windows, doors, boiler, insulation, walls and loft.
We won’t take any pictures of you and will exclude personal belongings from photos wherever possible. If in doubt, please put away anything you would prefer us not to photograph.
We promise to look after your personal data, including photos of your home, in line with our privacy policy.
What is the benefit to me from this survey?
The energy saving measures identified on the Energy Performance Certificate will reduce your energy use so should help to save you money on your bills – for example from improved insulation levels or more efficient heating. Having this assessment will make sure we include you on our programme to make your home more energy efficient before 2030.
Can I have a copy of my Energy Performance Certificate?
Absolutely. You’ll be able to find a copy of your Energy Performance Certificate a few days after your survey by checking the national energy performance register at www.gov.uk/find-energy-certificate
If you don’t have access to the internet, please get in touch and we’ll arrange to send this to you.
When am I due an energy performance assessment?
Energy Performance Certificates are valid for 10 years, so we'll carry out an energy performance assessment of your home every 10 years. We'll write to you when your property is due an assessment.
What do I need to do to prepare for my energy performance assessment?
If you have furniture or belongings which block access to the fixtures and fittings we’ve mentioned above, we’d be grateful if you could move them out of the way so we can clearly see them.
