Types of tenancies

Most of our tenancies are long term. These are called Assured Periodic Tenancies and sometimes referred to as lifetime tenancies.

These tenancies have no fixed end date. Either the tenant or landlord can end it, but the landlord must have a valid reason, such as the resident breaking the rules of the tenancy.

We offer other types of tenancies, which are listed below.

Assured shorthold tenancies (ASTs)

These are used when a home isn’t meant to be permanent. Or when someone is renting from Curo for the first time (starter tenancies).

Assured shorthold tenancies for minors

These are for people aged 16-17.

Fixed-term tenancies

This is a type of AST that lasts for a fixed amount of time.

Private rent homes

These are homes let on a commercial basis, usually at full market rents.

Starter tenancies

These are for new tenants who haven’t rented from us before. They are a type of AST and last 12 to 18 months as a trial period. If the tenancy is going well and there are no breaches of tenancy (for example, rent arrears or neighbour nuisance complaints), the tenancy automatically becomes a lifetime tenancy.
