Is your benefits cap 'grace period' ending?

Post image

At Curo we're very aware of the financial difficultly customers can be put in if affected by the Government's benefit cap. If you’re claiming Universal Credit because you stopped working or your earnings went down you may have been exempted from the benefits cap. This exemption lasts nine months, and the Government has confirmed that they will not be extending this nine-month 'grace period'.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that around 340,000 families will become subject to the benefit cap between December 2020 and March 2021 because of the grace period ending.

If you're now facing a benefits cap, our message to you is: please contact us and speak with our Customer Accounts Team if you need help and support.

We will listen, discuss with you your options, and we may be able to approach your local authority for financial assistance in the form of a Discretionary Housing Payment. We would need to complete an income and expenditure review with you and the local authority would need to see bank statements to support this.

Please don’t suffer in silence, pick up the phone or email us at customeraccountshelp@curo-group.co.uk

We are here to help.
