Our Independent Living Service is here to support you to live independently. We’ll always do our best to provide you with the support you need.
Our service is for people living anywhere in Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset.
Our support service includes:
- Reviewing finances and maximising income
- Support with making appointments
- Practical advice on repairs and arranging mobility equipment
- Help with managing diaries/calendars
- Support managing your medication
- Support with arranging online shopping
- Support with transport to and from medical appointments
- Putting out recycling and rubbish
- Advice about staying healthy and keeping active
- Support with cupboard spring cleaning
- Technical support with accessing online tools
- Practical advice on keeping your home safe

Ted is 85. He’s been living alone for the past 20 years in his own apartment. He’s very independent and is as sharp as he's ever been. He is now very unsteady on his feet and worries that he could fall and won’t be able to call for help. He still likes to go out once or twice a week food shopping and takes his car. He’s increasingly uncomfortable driving so won’t drive far. His grown-up children all live at least an hour away – they phone regularly and he usually gets a visit about once a month from someone.

visit regularly monthly, fortnightly or weekly to make sure you’re ok and accompany you to appointments, shopping, for a walk or to social events and so on.
Advocating
- We can support you to be heard, make sure you are treated fairly and make sure you are getting everything you are entitled to.
- We can help with paperwork, organisation, telephone calls, bills and budgeting. We can support you to improve your health and well-being.
You are important
- We can do all this and more. Our support is tailored to meet your needs and wants.
- We can support as much or as little as you want.
Jane, 46, lives in Bristol and works full time, with three children all at school. Both Jane’s parents are in their 70s and live together in Radstock in the family home they have owned since the 1980s. Jane worries that her parents are struggling to manage and cope in the home. They are both unsteady on their feet and Jane’s Mum has recently falling over a lot and cannot manage the stairs so is sleeping in the living room. Jane’s parents don’t want to move out of their home but Jane feels it’s the best option.

Barbara is 75. She lives alone in a two-storey home with just a single gas fire. She likes to go out dancing several times a week and is in good health although she has a heart condition which is closely monitored. She’d like to sell her home and buy an apartment in a sheltered block but hasn’t found anything she can afford and is daunted by the idea of moving. She speaks to her family and friends daily on the phone and also uses social media to keep in touch. She can feel overwhelmed by bills and forms, worries about money, being ‘ripped off’ online by energy and phone suppliers.

Ed is 32. He’s recently been re-housed following a period of homelessness and sofa surfing due to drug and alcohol related difficulties. He suffers from a low mood, anxiety and depression. Ed is struggling with claiming benefits, paying his rent, debt management and paperwork. He is not seeing his GP regularly and is not eating well or generally taking care of himself.
