Extra Care housing
We provide 'Extra Care' housing, designed for older people who need more support than sheltered housing offers but who would still like to be independent.
Extra Care housing offers self-contained properties let on normal assured tenancies, a range of communal facilities, a restaurant, an assisted bathroom, guest suite, plus staff available on site 24 hours a day to provide care and support. Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES) Council provides the care and restaurant facilities. All applications should be made through its social services department.
Extra Care schemes are at St John's Court in Bath, Greenacres in Midsomer Norton and Hawthorns in Keynsham.

Extra Care: At a glance
- Curo and B&NES Council have 90 Extra Care apartments in Keynsham, Midsomer Norton and Bath.
- Curo provides a Sheltered Housing Officer who helps to arrange social activities, appointments and offers other general support, while B&NES Council staff are on the premises at all times to provide personal care.
- Restaurant facilities (provided by B&NES Council) offer a choice of lunchtime meals and friends or family are welcome to come along. All our Extra Care premises have hotel-style guest suites for visitors.
- Extra Care is for people with low-to-moderate care needs – care describes things like help getting dressed or personal bathing.
How to access Extra Care housing
To access our Extra Care housing an assessment needs to be completed by a social worker to ensure eligible needs. Once this is completed and it is confirmed Extra Care is needed it will be discussed at a panel meeting and then once approved, customers are placed on a waiting list until a property becomes available.
