Energy prices are rising. If you’re struggling to pay your fuel bills, there is help.
The Warm Home Discount scheme could provide you with £140 off your electricity bill this winter.
The scheme opens on 18 October 2021. The money isn’t paid to you – it’s a one-off discount on your electricity bill, between October and March. To see if you’re eligible contact your energy supplier directly or click here.
Another scheme is the Cold Weather Payment.
You could get a payment if the average temperature in your area is recorded as, or forecast to be, 0°C or below over seven consecutive days. You’ll get £25 for each seven-day period of very cold weather between 1 November and 31 March. You’ll be able to check if your area is due a payment when this year’s scheme starts on 1 November 2021. You do not need to apply. If you’re eligible to get a Cold Weather Payment, you’ll be paid it automatically.
For other sources of grants and financial help with fuel bills, head to the Citizens Advice website. Alternatively, contact our Customer Accounts team who can help you access grants and may be able to arrange fuel vouchers on your behalf depending on your circumstances.
If your energy supplier goes bust, you’ll still have gas and electricity. The regulator, Ofgem, will allocate you a new supplier and any credit you have on your energy account will be protected. Wait for the new supplier to contact you and don’t try to switch to a different company until you’re with your new supplier as this can complicate things.
