Furry residents move into a newly-built Curo home with a difference

I was excited to see the theme of last week's Mental Health Awareness Week was nature. After the year we've had I think most of us now have a true appreciation for the outdoors. Certainly here in Curo's Estates Team, we all have an appreciation for the outside spaces. Recently I've been involved in something a little different and wanted to share some photos of the wildlife hiding out in our green spaces at Curo.

We have a large badger sett in Moorfields, Bath, and this caused some issues recently when a boundary wall collapsed due to the sett disrupting the foundations. The solution was to build the badgers a new home and tempt them in with the aid of a very large bag of peanuts.

Our next step will be to carefully close off the former sett to prevent further damage to the wall and neighbouring properties. Badgers are protected in law, so we have to follow strict rules when it comes to completing any work involving a sett. We are in the process of applying to Natural England for a licence to close off the former sett and as part of this we used a wildlife camera to make sure the badgers were indeed using the new sett.

I've been visiting frequently to view the footage and sprinkle peanuts and I was so happy to see the badgers very active in and out of the new sett... along with foxes, cats, dogs, pigeons and squirrels all going about their business nearby!

We now plan to use the camera in a variety of locations, capturing wildlife activity and we'll be sharing more of these photos in the coming months - keep an eye on our social media channels.
