Curo’s Independent Living Service helps Norman Clarke stay living safely in the place he’s called home for 60 years
Norman Clarke has lived in his Curo home for more than 60 of his 93 years. His neat and tidy two-bed in the Moorlands area of Bath is filled with happy memories. Photos of the family he brought up here cover the walls, along with smiling pictures of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He takes great pride in his garden, where he loves to sit in the sunshine or tend to the roses and fuchsias he grows.
Curo’s Independent Living Service helps Norman to stay living safely in the place he’s called home for most of his life. The service provides an experienced and dedicated support worker to help customers with everything from applying for benefits to doing the weekly shop – and much more.
Staying active
Through the service, Norman’s Independent Living Support Worker, Kate Pearce, gives him practical and emotional support. “Every week, I take Norman to do his weekly shop – it’s a chance for him to get out and keep active. I also help with any life admin tasks he needs to do, whether that’s paying his bills or applying for benefits. For example, we helped Norman to get back hundreds of pounds he was owed by his energy supplier.”
Kate finds her job helping customers like Norman fulfilling. “Week by week, you get to know more about customers’ needs,” she says. “You build up a lovely relationship and want to do the very best you can for them.
“When I leave Norman’s house, I always have a smile and he does too.”
