Bin storage upgrade programme

Bath & North East Somerset Council’s change of waste management policy has created challenges for Curo and its customers and we're working together to find solutions to problems such as instances of increased fly-tipping and delayed collection due to access issues and bin volumes.

Curo colleagues recently met with representatives from the Council to discuss waste issues at specific sites. We are committed to resolving these issues with the Council, and to bringing forward timetabled investment to do so.

Our investment is centred on improving the access, layout and quality of our communal bin stores particularly those that serve our customers living in apartment blocks. The improvement works will include:

  • increasing our recycling facilities at all of our sites;
  • replacing waste bins;
  • improving safety and security to prevent the large scale fly-tipping that is common in many of our properties.

Not only is the latter a safety hazard and eyesore, it also increases the service charges for customers who have to absorb the removal cost.

We're committed to working in partnership with our customers and the Council to resolve the waste-related issues being experienced and to take enforcement against individuals who do not deal with their waste responsibly.

In consultation with Council colleagues we have identified sites which require urgent attention and we have prioritised these into Year One of our four-year improvement programme. In addition, following feedback from our Council colleagues we will be replacing all of our ageing bins in 2018/19. This will improve the experience not only of our customers but also of the Council’s waste management operatives.

The four-year programme is below. The programme is a live document that can be revised if priorities and funding opportunities change. We will keep customers and councillors informed of programme progress and will be publishing the programme to customers in September. We will consult with customers on issues such as access, management arrangements and improvements where possible as the programme is rolled out to the specific sites ahead of works being started.
