Donation to Yatton school means new play area for local children

Pupils at a local primary school in Yatton are enjoying a new play area after Curo made a generous donation towards the purchase.

Curo made a donation of £2500 after Chestnut Park Primary School put out a call for sponsors to support the installation of a new play area at the school. The money was put towards a new natural play area and trim trail for the primary school students.

To mark the event, a short ceremony was held at the school, which was well attended by local children, parents, teachers alongside representatives from Curo’s Sales Department. After handing over a ceremonial cheque, Curo’s team challenged the children to have a go at building their own cardboard Curo house.

Parents, children and teachers all bundled in quickly to put together their own unique designs. After a flurry of colouring, these wonderfully designed new houses were taken home to serve as a reminder of the day of fun that was had.

Tamara Dexter, Head Teacher at Chestnut Park Primary School, says, "Curo's generous donation has had a huge impact across our school and the Yatton community. Not only did it help us install new play equipment, but it also brought the community together in a really unique and engaging way."

"The children loved building and designing their own Curo houses, which was a great bit of fun for both the kids and also a number of parents who were in attendance. We are immensely grateful for Curo's ongoing support, and as an integral member of the Yatton community, their commitment to supporting local organisations like Chestnut Park Primary School is truly appreciated and valued."

Curo is well known in Yatton for its Eaton Park development. Located just opposite Chestnut Park Primary, the scheme will comprise 154 new homes alongside high quality public open space with tree and shrub planting, wildflower meadows and a Local Equipped Area for Play (LEAP).

Jodie Winter, Sales Manager at Curo, says, “It’s been a real privilege to support Chestnut Park Primary with this donation. We’re deeply committed to our relationships with our community partners - especially in this case as we are basically neighbours!”

“It was a delight to meet the wonderful children and parents of Chestnut Park Primary, and we can’t wait to welcome the rest of our ever-growing community to Eaton Park.”

Chestnut Park Primary is still looking to expand its play area. The school is hoping to install a climbing frame next. It is currently fund-raising through its PTA, but would welcome any further donations towards costs from the local community.

First residents move to Eaton Park in Yatton

A retired couple who moved to North Somerset to be close to family are the first residents at Curo’s new Eaton Park development in Yatton.

Frances, 78, and David, 80, have lived in Taunton, Somerset most of their lives, but decided they wanted to be closer to their son, daughter and four grand-daughters in Yatton.

They are the first residents to move to Eaton Park, a new development of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom homes situated on the edge of the North Somerset village.

David says: “We didn’t really want to be travelling up and down the motorway all the time anymore – the motorway is no fun at all these days. Our children were delighted when they heard we wanted to move.”

Frances added: “One day earlier this year we called in to the sales suite at Eaton Park and we met our sales negotiator, Tracey. We decided then and there that we were going to buy this house and Tracey helped us choose everything, from our kitchen to flooring and tiles. Although it was off-plan it was easy for us to see it’s where we wanted to live.”

The couple, who have been married 59 years, moved to their new 3-bedroom semi-detached house at the end of June. The property has a spacious kitchen/diner and separate lounge on the ground floor, leading to a large garden through French doors. They also benefit from off-street parking and solar panels on the roof.

Frances says: “We have a really big garden which is brilliant because I love gardening. We’ve already started planting the border – I brought 30 cuttings from our old house to help establish our new garden. Our neighbours who have also moved in recently came over and commented about the garden and the progress we’ve made. We feel very lucky and can’t wait to really put our stamp on the outdoor space here.”

An added bonus for the couple was the stamp duty holiday which was initially scheduled to end in March but was extended by the government until the end of June. House buyers can still benefit from smaller tax breaks if they purchase a home until 30 September.

David says: “I must say that Curo were amazing – the sales negotiators, Tracey and Sharon and all the builders – they really did do their best to get us in by 30th June so that we could benefit from the stamp duty exemption.”

“We just love how low-maintenance our new-build home is, and that there’s so much natural light in all the rooms.”

The couple are looking forward to exploring the area over the next few months, as well as spending more time with the family.

Frances says: “Our children have told us about all the different walks – we explored Strawberry Line before, but they also recommended the fishing lakes at Kingston Seymour and other places we must go and see, and we’re really excited about discovering them.

“It’s lovely to have all the family living nearby, we’re really happy here.”

Eaton Park offers modern living in a beautiful rural setting, close to local amenities, including schools, Co-op, post office, pharmacy and pubs. The development will also deliver new open spaces with trees, shrubs, wildflower meadows and a children’s play area.

Prices at Eaton Park start at £239,995 for a two-bed coach house. Homes available to reserve right now have prices starting at £310,000 for a three-bedroom mid-terrace property.

For more information about the new homes visit our sales website, call 0345 140 5050 or pop in at the Marketing Suite on North End Road (BS49 4GH) open 7 days a week, 10am-5.30pm.
Brownies name new roads at Yatton housing development

Image above: 1st Yatton Brownies with Curo Sales Manager, Jodie Winter

Roads at Eaton Park, a new housing development of 154 homes in Yatton, have been named after the sixes from the local Brownie unit, following a competition organised by housing association and housebuilder Curo.

The winning names were chosen by Yatton Parish Council from a number of ideas proposed by local residents, which included suggestions inspired by Somerset’s wildlife and dialect, as well as foods and historic place names from the wider area.

Eaton Park’s main road will bear the name of the unit’s leader, ‘Barn Owl’ Road, while the smaller streets have been named after the sixes: ‘Fox’ Avenue, ‘Rabbit’ Close, ‘Hedgehog’ Way and ‘Squirrel’ Close.

Curo made a £200 donation to 1st Yatton Brownies to thank them for their help. The sixes will be using the money to hire a mobile climbing wall and have some fun after a year that has been largely lacking in exciting activities due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sue Willis, 1st Yatton Brownies Guider, says: “It’s wonderful that Curo have involved the local community in naming the roads at Eaton Park. We can’t believe we won, and we’d like to thank Curo for the generous donation; the girls are over the moon!

“We’re hoping that this will also help increase awareness of Girlguiding. 1st Yatton Brownies are part of Girlguiding UK, a female only organisation with sections for girls aged 5 to adults. We’re always keen to welcome new members, especially adults. We’re all volunteers and are always looking for more willing pairs of hands. Guiding is great fun and provides amazing opportunities to try new things both for girls and women. Anyone interested in joining can apply through our website.”

Jodie Winter, Curo Sales Manager, says: “We’d like to thank all local residents who have taken the time to send in their suggestions – we loved the contributions and it was a tough call for us and the Parish Council to choose the winners. Congratulations to 1st Yatton Brownies whose ideas were very warmly received by the ‘selection committee’.

“We’re proud to be working with the local community to deliver a beautiful new residential development at Eaton Park in Yatton. Our sales suite is now open seven days a week by appointment only and we encourage those interested in our stunning two-, three- and four-bedroom homes to give us a call on 0345 140 5050 or email eatonpark@curo-group.co.uk for more information.”

Yatton Junior Football Club scores sponsorship from housebuilder Curo

Junior teams at Yatton FC are looking great on the pitch thanks to a donation from the builders of a new residential development in the village.

West of England housing association and housebuilder Curo donated £3,750 to the club as part of their commitment to working together with local communities and supporting residents in areas where they are building new homes.

In total, 126 children with ages ranging from under-9s to under-14s have benefitted from brand-new Nike football kits, including shirts, socks and shorts. Curo’s sponsorship also enabled the club management to purchase folding bench shelters to keep the junior footballers dry and comfortable during matches played at home and away.

James Bellis, Yatton Junior FC Chairman, says: “We’re absolutely delighted to receive this generous donation from Curo and we’re grateful for their support. It means a lot for our talented young players to have their own team kit and it’s great to see them looking so smart and confident on the pitch.”

Curo are building 154 new homes for sale and rent at Eaton Park in Yatton, where the first few properties will be ready to receive their new residents in May 2021. Sales Manager Jodie Winter says: “It’s really important to us at Curo to support the communities we work in. As a developer and a housing association, we remain a part of the community long after we have built and sold the last property, as we continue to manage the affordable homes on site.

“We’re pleased that we were able to support Yatton Junior FC with the purchase of new equipment and we think the young players are looking very professional in their Curo-branded shirts!”

Curo to build 154 new homes in Yatton, North Somerset

Image above: Site plan of Curo's new development in Yatton, Eaton Park

Bath-based housing association and housebuilder Curo has been granted full planning permission by North Somerset Council to build 154 new homes in the village of Yatton.

The homes, which include 108 for open market sales, 37 for social rent and nine for Shared Ownership, will be delivered on land at the roundabout junction of North End (B3133) and Arnold’s Way.

The housing association is currently carrying out improvement works to this roundabout, approved separately by the Council in November 2019, which will provide access to the new development. Curo prioritised the infrastructure upgrades in response to a request from the local community, to minimise disruption from vehicular traffic during the construction phase. The highway works are expected to complete in September, when construction activity will move on site.

Curo acquired the land with outline planning permission for up to 170 homes late 2018.

Curo Chief Executive, Victor da Cunha, says: “We’ve worked closely with North Somerset Council and local stakeholders on the detailed plans for this scheme. I’m particularly pleased that, while we have reduced the density of homes in response to feedback from the Council and representatives of the local community, we have been successful in designing a high-quality scheme and maintaining 30% of the new homes as affordable housing.

“Curo will retain the social homes on this scheme in perpetuity, letting them at reduced rent to local people on the Council’s waiting list.

“As a housing association we have no shareholders, so all the profits we make from building and selling homes are reinvested in delivering more affordable housing for people in our region and maintaining and improving our existing homes.

“The region desperately needs more homes, particularly affordable homes, so being able to provide much-needed housing is good for local people and, because of the jobs it creates, good for the local economy too.”

The development will be known as Eaton Park and, in addition to homes, will also create high-quality public open space with tree and shrub planting, wildflower meadows and a Local Equipped Area for Play (LEAP). Cycle way improvements will connect the development to the famous Strawberry Line - part of the National Cycle Network 26 - a 10-mile picturesque route between Yatton and Cheddar.

Curo will also contribute approximately £2m towards improving or creating new community, leisure, education and transport infrastructure within the surrounding area.

The first homes on the site will be ready for occupation by May next year with completion of the development anticipated by the end of 2023.
