Family returns to home village thanks to new Curo development

A young couple and their two children are able to live closer to family and friends thanks to new homes built by Curo at its Highbury Fields development in the village of Clutton.

Beth, who is 26 years old and from Clutton, and Danny, who’s 33 years old and was born and raised just a couple of miles down the road, in Paulton, have been looking to buy their first home together in the village but were struggling to find the right property.

Danny says: “It’s very difficult for young families to move back to the village, there just aren’t enough homes coming up for sale. We’ve been looking for some time and we either couldn’t afford to buy, or couldn’t afford to renovate. Also, with a three-year-old son and a six-month-old baby, it would be hard for us to live in a house while undertaking major works.”

The family were initially looking for a three-bedroom home with a garage and a bigger garden. Beth says: “We wanted the kids to be able to play freely in the garden, so this was really important to us. We also knew that if we could push ourselves to buy a four-bed house, it could really be our forever home – and that’s what we got.”

The two-storey, four-bedroom Drayton house type at Highbury Fields features large open-plan living spaces and a contemporary, stylish kitchen. It also comes with a single garage and two designated parking spaces and has a ten-year NHBC warranty.

Danny and Beth have moved in to their new home at the end of March with son Roman and daughter Margo. Many of Beth’s extended family still live in Clutton, and Danny drives the school bus in the village as part of his work for the family transport business.

Beth says: “Our lives are very much connected to the village - my mother and younger brother still live in the old family home, just down the road from the Warwick Arms pub. My aunties and uncles and many of our school friends also live here.

“I went to the primary school in the village and it’s amazing that both our children will now be able to go there and have a similar upbringing to our own. My mother loves the fact that her grandchildren live only a couple of minutes down the road from her.

“There are so many people who’ve grown up here and would love to come back to the village and I know that we were very lucky to be able to actually do it.”

Highbury Fields is a new development of 36 homes with two, three and four bedrooms in the Somerset village of Clutton. The homes are being delivered by award-winning housing association and house-builder Curo – for more information go to our sales website contact sales@curo-group.co.uk or call 0345 140 5050.

Curo up for double at national awards

Bath-based housing association and house-builder Curo has been shortlisted for two national awards recognising the success of its sales team and flagship development, Mulberry Park.

Curo are finalists in the ’Home Ownership Team of the Year’ and ‘Best Large Development’ categories at the National Housing Awards, run by the National Housing Federation (NHF).

Lisa Howells, Curo Sales Director, says: “These awards recognise excellence, innovation and creativity in the housing sector and we’re delighted to have been nominated in two categories this year. Our customers are at the very heart of everything we do and we’re proud to help many families each year find their perfect home.

“Our sales people are experts in all housing products and schemes available, supporting customers through the process to homeownership whether they are at the start of their journey or looking to move up the property ladder.”

So far 84 families have started a new life at Mulberry Park, Curo’s development of 700 homes, open spaces and community facilities in South Bath.

Lisa says: “Housing associations are making a positive contribution to delivering new homes across all tenures. A recent Savills report confirmed that Curo are outselling our Bath competitors including national housebuilders, another endorsement of our ‘profit for purpose’ approach.”

Curo Construction Operations Director, Jonathan Poole, says: “We build high quality, energy efficient homes and we strive to use the latest house-building technologies for the benefit of customers. All homes at Mulberry Park are designed to ensure energy efficiency and low running costs for residents, incorporating features such as low energy lamps and built-in USB chargers as standard.

“In the third phase of the development, we’ll build our first certified Passivhaus homes - ultra-low energy, close to zero carbon status properties that require little energy for space heating or cooling.”

This is Curo’s third shortlisting for Mulberry Park this year, after becoming a finalist in the ‘Best design for three storeys or fewer’ category at the upcoming Housebuilder Awards and winning the Bath Life Awards in the Property category back in March.

Winners for the National Housing Awards will be announced at a gala dinner in London on 6 September.
