At Curo, ensuring our homes are great places for people to live is a priority. That means planned maintenance, continual investment in home improvements and responding to the inevitable repairs every home needs – all on a massive scale.
Our 13,000 properties range from modern homes in new developments like Mulberry Park and Bath Riverside, to apartments in 300-year-old Listed Georgian townhouses, and hundreds of different types of property in between.
“There’s huge variety in our housing stock and each property has its own requirements and, sometimes, challenges,” says Julie Evans, Curo’s Director of Property & Places. “We know that every single property is someone’s home and we take very seriously our responsibility for making that place special.
“We have a rolling programme of home improvements to ensure that every Curo home is safe, healthy, affordable and warm. This includes regular redecoration, replacing roofs – like the work that’s underway in Snow Hill – installing the latest energy-efficient heating and double-glazing, and upgrading fire doors and smoke alarms. We install new adaptations like handrails or walk-in showers to make our homes easier to live in as we get older, and keep on top of the things we all expect to be modernised from time to time, like our kitchens and bathrooms.”
Last year we invested £13 million into home improvements like these. One of the 254 new kitchens Curo installed last year belongs to Ange who has lived in her two-bedroom Curo house in Moorfields with her young daughter since 2011.
“I’ve just had a new kitchen fitted, which is fantastic. The workmen were on time, clean and tidy and I’m very proud of what they’ve done. Having a new kitchen, I’m proud to have my neighbours round for cups of coffee now. It’s a pleasure to cook in here – I absolutely love it.
“I’ve lived here for six years and I love the neighbourhood. I’ve got lovely friends around here and the school is just down the road, which is convenient. I also have a secure tenancy which makes me feel safe, knowing that I’ve always got a roof over my head for me and my daughter.”
