Huts and Harbours - Foxhill's WWII heritage revealed

Post image

This year, for the first time, an exhibition celebrating Foxhill’s WWII heritage will feature as part of the national Heritage Open Days scheme.

Huts & Harbours: Foxhill’s WWII Heritage will take place:

  • At St. Andrew’s Community Church, Hawthorn Grove, Bath, BA2 5QA
  • On 2pm – 6pm, Friday 9 September
  • 10am – 4pm, Saturday 10 September

Sponsored by Bath Spa University and Curo, and supported by The Museum of Bath at Work, Combe Down Heritage Society and Combe Down Primary School, this exhibition is the result of significant research and collaboration.

Curated by Bath Spa University’s Karen Power the exhibition takes visitors on a journey of discovery to explore how the WWII shaped the development of Foxhill.

  • Step back in time to see how Foxhill’s landscape changed from farmland to naval huts to post war prefabs.
  • Relive the experience of Admiralty workers sent to Bath within weeks of war starting
  • Explore life inside the naval huts through Combe Down Primary School’s amazing 3-D site model
  • Marvel at the Mulberry Harbour that gave its name to Mulberry Park
  • Discover why Foxhill’s post war prefabs were so popular
Foxhill Prefabs

With free refreshments and family activities, everyone’s invited to come along and help celebrate Foxhill’s fascinating WWII heritage!

We’d also love local people to share their memories of the MOD at Foxhill and see any Foxhill photos from the 1940s and 50s

Please call Karen on 07966 212633 or email her at karen.power14@bathspa.ac.uk or bring your photos and memories along on the day!
