Detailed plans for the first 275 new homes at Mulberry Park (the former Foxhill MoD site), were approved unanimously by local councillors on Wednesday night.

This follows the planning committee’s support for outline plans for the 48-acre site in March 2015 which will deliver 700 new homes, community facilities and open spaces.

Gerraint Oakley, Managing Director of Curo’s house building division said: “We are delighted that our detailed proposals for the first 275 new homes at Mulberry Park have been approved by Bath & North East Somerset. This enables us to take the first step to bring much needed private and affordable homes, community facilities and fantastic open spaces to this area of Bath. We would like to thank all those who have worked with us to shape these plans over the last two years. We look forward to continuing to work closely with the local community as Mulberry Park becomes a reality.”

Mulberry Park is a major investment by housing and support organisation, Curo. The development of the brownfield site will deliver 700 high quality, energy efficient homes, 30% of which will be for social rent or shared ownership. It will also deliver a new primary school and nursery, a community hub, a park and public open spaces. During the development, the local economy will benefit from construction jobs, apprenticeships and training opportunities.

For decades the land was secured for the MoD and inaccessible to local people. The first phase of development at Mulberry Park will start to unlock this corner of the city and integrate this land back into the wider community. Valuable east-west links between Combe Down village and Foxhill and a new bus route will connect local neighbourhoods.

Curo has been working with local residents, community organisations and councillors to develop proposals for the former MoD site, since buying the land in 2012. The first new homes at Mulberry Park will be available in 2017.
