Curo in Bloom 2013 – celebrating Curo residents’ best gardens and displays

22 October 2013

Over 50 green-fingered gardeners entered into the fun of Curo in Bloom this year, helping to brighten up streets across the West of England.

This year’s winners include the Chandler Rangers, a group of youngsters living in Weston, Bath who have transformed a patch of grass where they live into an award-winning community garden, and Christine Clark of Twerton, Bath who won the best small garden category.

The competition celebrates Curo residents’ finest gardens, balconies, window boxes and hanging basket displays and is open to anyone living in one of Curo’s 12,000 homes which stretch from Taunton to Thornbury and Weston-Super-Mare to Chippenham.

The Sustainable Garden award, given for the most environmentally-friendly garden or display, was won by Timsbury resident Sheila Mosson. Mrs Mosson, who is registered blind, won the award for her edible garden.

Runner-up in the window box, balcony and hanging basket award category is Kelly Adams of Weston, Bath. Mrs Adams said: “Thank you to all the Curo resident involvement team who worked so hard to make this competition a success. The awards event in Saltford was a special occasion and such a joy to be given a plaque for my efforts.”

Chris Wildman, Curo Resident Involvement Manager, said: “I’ve been so impressed with the number and quality of entries this year. I’m always so encouraged by how many residents really enjoy taking part, not only in this competition but in making a real difference in their neighbourhood.

“The only essential criteria for entering Curo in Bloom is that the garden or display can be seen by the public. This really helps to make our neighbourhoods brighter places to be. Well done to all who took part.”

Curo in Bloom is supported by the Landscape Group, with the entries judged during August by a panel of Curo customers and colleagues.
