Curo colleagues who took time out from work to read to older people at a Bath care home were recognised at the 2014 Bath & North East Somerset Chairman’s Awards on 4 February 2014.
Curo’s Dominic Lynch, Paula Lye, Fiona Joy and Rita Waligo (pictured, left-right) shared the Business in the Community Award with colleagues from Bath & North East Somerset (B&NES) Council who all took part in the Read Aloud Bath scheme, reading to older people at the Orangery care home in Bath.
Curo Project Manager, Paula Lye, said: “These awards are a fantastic way to highlight the great contribution local people and organisations make in their neighbourhoods, and we’re really proud to be among those recognised this year. Volunteering is incredibly rewarding and we all thoroughly enjoyed taking part. We hope our choice of reading material was appreciated by the residents at the Orangery!”
The aim of the Chairman’s Awards is to recognise volunteers, community leaders, educational institutions and businesses that make a positive contribution to the local community.
Councillor Neil Butters, Chairman of B&NES Council, said: “The volunteers, community leaders and businesses that make such a fantastic contribution to the local community and inspire others to get involved to shaping the future of their community have been celebrated through these awards. I’d like to thank everyone who made a nomination and congratulate all of those people who received an award.”
Vanessa Collier, Curo’s Community Engagement Manager, added: “At Curo we know that neighbourhoods are made great by the people who live in them, and we’re proud to be supporting these awards, which are all about people and community. This year’s entries have once again showcased the fantastic work local people are doing to make their neighbourhoods happy, safe and popular places. We’d like to thank everyone who took part and congratulate all the winners and runners-up.”
