In February 2015, a service that offers older people in North Somerset support to boost their health and wellbeing re-launches with new custodians.
The Community Connect service, funded by North Somerset Council, will be led by Curo with the West of England’s Rural Network (WERN), who successfully bid to lead this important service from 2015.
Curo Community Connect staff and WERN’s Village Agents will be working in partnership with local communities in North Somerset, to bring the Community Connect service to towns and villages across the district.
From February, Community Connect will offer tailored support, plus information advice and guidance to up to 800 people every year. It will work with communities to design and deliver locally-needed groups, events and self-sustaining activities.
Harriet Bosnell, Curo Director of Health, Care and Support, said: “Curo and the Village Agents have a great track record of successfully delivering award-winning care and support services for over 50s, such as rural dementia services and our popular Independent Living Service.”
Chris Head Executive Director of WERN said: “We are really pleased to be joining Curo to make this service possible. Curo Community Connect staff and the Village Agents are looking forward to offering a proactive service, to support older people right across the area who need information, advice or guidance to stay living independently or who simply want to help others.”
Harriet Bosnell added: “If you’re keen to join us as a volunteer for the first time, or if you already play a key role in the community and have time to give and enjoy getting things going in your area, please get in touch. We would love to hear from you so that together we can provide activities, learning, fundraising and volunteering opportunities throughout North Somerset.”
