Claiming Universal Credit with a child turning 16? You may need to update your Journal

The Department for Work and Pensions has alerted us to an issue affecting those families claiming Unversal Credit (UC) where one of their children turns 16 before the end of August 2020.

From the end of August 2020, anyone claiming UC with children turning 16 before 31 August 2020 will be ‘dropped’ off their UC claim and the UC allowance for that child will stop.  This means that UC customers with children turning 16 in the year to 31 Aug 2020, will need to go into their UC Journal and update the child’s details as remaining on the claim, as long as they are still responsible for that child.  This will restart the child’s UC allowance.
