Apprentice Becky: a key role



Curo Apprentice Becky Howard joined Curo’s Customer Contact Team in June 2016. Among her many tasks is organising and managing Curo’s key safes which store keys to shared areas across Curo’s 13,000 properties. Becky, 17, says she loves the responsibility and is thriving in an organisation she describes as ‘full of happy people’.

Initially studying for an NVQ in Administration at Bath College, Becky wanted more hands-on experience. “I was learning a lot of theory on my college course, but felt I was missing real office experience. The college was hosting an Apprenticeship Fair so I went along and discovered that Curo offered apprenticeships in Administration – exactly what I wanted.

“I applied for a number of apprenticeships and had several interviews and offers, but what stood out when I came to Curo was that everyone seemed really happy.

“Since joining, I’ve not been disappointed – it is a cheerful place to work. I get a lot of variety in my job and every day’s different. I started out shadowing colleagues to find out how different aspects of the job were done and went on lots of training. To start with I would spend a day a week back at college – that’s finished now and I get time to work on my coursework as part of the job.

“My Apprenticeship lasts 14 months and by the end I’m set to get a Level 2 NVQ. That’s the same qualification I was initially studying for, but as an apprentice I’ve been getting real-life experience at the same time. And earning a living too!”

6-10 March 2017 is National Apprenticeship Week.
